新馬路（Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro）
新馬路兩旁的建築物各有不同，當中有歐洲式的建築，也有少數保留中國傳統特色的建築物，而民政總署大樓以西的大部份建築物均為唐樓，這些唐樓保留了1920年代的建築風格，一般只有兩至四層，建築物和建築物之間都有一條向街的走廊，走廊上有樓底遮蓋，以遮擋雨水及太陽，也即是俗稱的“騎樓底”。相反，民政總署大樓以東的大多為具歐洲色彩的建築，如民政總署大樓和澳門郵政局等。隨著時代發展，一些新式的高樓大廈也開始在新馬路東端路口出現，如中國銀行和大西洋銀行大廈。
(Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro is the main avenue in the heart of Macau Peninsula. The 620 metres long avenue was laid out in 1920 and it extends from the Inner to the Outer harbour, passing through the old residential area with its rows of colourful street shops.
The main shopping belt is marked by the streets of Avenida do Infante D. Henrique and Avenida Almeida Ribeiro, S. Domingos Market, Rua da Palha, Rua do Campo, and Rua Pedro Nolasco da Silva. Nearby, on the lanes around the Rua das Estalagens, is a local flea market, a popular spot to look for Chinese antiques.)

歐維治 （Jorge Álvares）
歐維治，葡萄牙早期航海探險家。 1511年在從坎納諾爾(Canonor)向果阿運輸給養及西洋布的聖若昂•達•魯梅薩(S．João da Rumessa)大船上任書役，為第一個由官方派遣來華的葡萄牙人。 1513年，他在Tamão曾豎立一個“發現碑”。 1517年及1519年又兩次航行中國。 1520年作最後一次中國之行。
(Jorge Álvares (died July 8, 1521) is credited as the first Portuguese explorer to have reached China and Hong Kong. The Fundação Jorge Álvares (Jorge Álvares Foundation), founded by Vasco Joaquim Rocha Vieira prior to the handover of Macau, got its name for also having reached there.)
