焰火

黑暗籠罩大地，煙花掠開夜空，散開燦爛的焰火，煞是好看，這是一般年終佳節常景。煙花的散開，提醒這是佳節的假期，可以暫時不去煩其他工作上的事情，然後可以慢慢地做完喬治市的夜晚實錄，畢竟也耽擱了一段時間，然後再繼續做其他的校對。

喬治市世遺的夜晚是暗淡的，像一顆不再閃亮的珍珠，白晝的模樣可以判若兩樣。有點失望，有一種說不出的憤怒。我想，喬治市世遺的夜晚應該可以更發光發亮。

Eastern and Oriental Hotel 1885

The E. & O. is a colonial-style hotel established in 1885 by the Armenian Sarkies Brothers. The sea-fronting hotel is known for its luxurious accommodation and restaurants.

History

The Eastern hotel had prospered and gained popularity after one year of establishment in 1884. The brothers decided to establish another hotel, the Oriental Hotel in 1885, leading to the merging of both hotels to form the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in 1885. The success of the hotel led to a sister hotel, the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, 2 years later. The hotel went through a period of decline and in 1996 and it was closed down.

Now

After major restoration works to restore the hotel back to its former grandeur under its new owner, The E & O Group, the hotel was reopened to the public in 2001.

憶喬治

我熱愛喬治市這個老城市，它讓我在這個熱帶的國度裡，遇見了1786年的喬治，還有維多利亞。幾百年後，這裡賦予了另一個的生命，馬六甲海峽歷史城。在這裡，我有機會有個百年時空穿梭，與喬治和維多利亞交流。維多利亞時鐘樓，這個鐘樓紀念著維多利亞女皇加冕六十五年，就屹立在舊關仔角（ Esplanade）的交通圈附近。維多利亞時鐘樓或許從此不再寂寞，因為近年來，多了檳榔的陪伴，從此更燦爛。我曾經有一個幻想，不懂會不會有那麼的一天，當檳城搖身一變，成為了國際大都會時，這個檳榔模型是否也能轉型成什麼藝術館。我想，當我重新回到這裡時，我或許又再次踏上這一片曾經迷戀過的地方，重拾失去的記憶。

英國在發夢

當輪船靠攏檳城港口時，港口附近的英式建築總是會讓人充滿聯想，這裡是否會是一個小英國。我擁有一個英國夢，是否站在距離英國一萬公里的土地上，就可以開始發夢？土庫街，這裡曾經是英國對半島殖民的發祥地，我是否可以在這裡有機可乘，也可以找到與大不列顛的相同味道，彷彿就像來到倫敦或者曼徹斯特。我的英國夢，很遙遠，我想慢慢的實踐这个英国梦。
